Q&A Indie Authors Uncovered - Meet the person behind the pages - Sara Petrie - Romantasy with Spicy Twists
Where were you born?
Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
Where do you live?
The Netherlands, about 30-min drive from both Utrecht and Amsterdam.
Do you have fur babies?
Yes!
- Choco & warrior princess, the gerbils.
- Also 2 furless babies : Dragon & Sunny, our bearded dragons 😍
Do you use a pen name?
My actual name is Sara Petrie, but I skipped my formal last name as I like it better this way!
Easier to pronounce and remember, too.
What kind of writer are you?
- Modern Day : Laptop or PC Writer
Name one book you loved as a kid - one you loved as a new adult - and one you love now.
- The fantastical Never-ending story as a kid.
- Fascinating Earth's Children series by Jean Auell as a new adult.
- Frigging hot & funny Curse of the Gods by Jaymin Eve got me into writing Romantasy myself!
Is there an author you look up to? Or had an influence on your craft?
There's so many! I'd hate to pick one.
The ones mentioned above, and I'd say Jim Butcher author of the Dresden Files, as he sucked me back into reading fantasy again 😁 the cynical humor and factual investigation of the supernatural is 🤌🏼!
How would you describe your craft in one sentence?

A quirky, carefully planned chaos with multi POVs deepen the emotional rollercoaster of a layered Romantasy with spicy twists, a dash of darkness and sprinkles of witty banter.
At The Dreamer's Bookshop, we embrace diversity and advocate for invisible illnesses. How do you feel about those topics? Do you include messages in your writing?
Even heroes, no, especially heroes, battle with anxiety, insecurity and a raging case of imposter syndrome every once in a while.
Neurodiversity is natural and widespread and all my writing embraces this with characters that all have their struggles and (mental) challenges.
Diversity is the same, whether it's racial, gender or relation related: we're stunning in our diversity, and it's something to be celebrated, and, when needed (sadly) to normalize it.
So all diversity is naturally present in all my books (as in my personal life! 🥰🌈🦄)
Do you have red lines when it comes to writing/reading?
I'd never write or read about any form of abuse. It just doesn't bring me joy and I hate explicit scenes or whole plot lines.
Some background stories have abuse, though, as I feel it's important for us all to realize it's more common than you might realize.
Was there a review that touched you more than others?
The one done by my fairy godmother (yes, I call her that 😁).
She's been reading my work since day 1 and love the way she experiences reading this tale. Tears, people 🥹
If someone asked you why you write, what would you answer in one sentence?
To create a fantastical escape from today's life for myself AND -I'm so insanely grateful to be able to say now!- the readers who choose to pick up my books! I carefully weave a world I'd want to live in
Which book are you most proud of and why?
Electrifying Awakening ~ it was my first book baby, and I'd never have dreamt she'd hit the shelves like she did! 😁
What would you tell an aspiring writer?
Write what YOU love, not what you think is popular. You spend a lot of time "in your book", better make it something you absolutely adore!
Also, cut yourself some slack, give it time and take it one step (one word) at a time! The book/story will grow with you if you allow it, and enjoying the steps as they come, makes it so much easier and far more fulfilling!
Big dreams, small steps 🤸🏻♀️
What's a wish you have for yourself as an author?
To keep this passionate about it, until I'm a crazy old grandma and ramble the same story on repeat 😁. If some sweet souls (readers) laugh, cry, sweat or swear along that road, I'll be one lucky cookie!
What's a wish you have for yourself as a person?
To create more time and space in life for the small moments that matter ✨️
Do you have a message for your audience?

Read what you love! Life's too short to read dull books, so be picky and zealous 🧚♀️
