Q&A Indie Authors Uncovered - Meet the person behind the pages - Marian Pattechat Sci-Fi

Where were you born?

Blue sky, green hill, a person sitting there looking at the lake.

Bulgaria

Where do you live?

Bulgaria, Southeast Europe

Do you have fur babies?

No, unfortunately! But I feed stray cats and dogs.

Do you use a pen name?

Marian Pattechat. I use it because it provides anonymity and sounds better in English than my real name.

"Marian" is the name of a favorite French cartoon character I had growing up, and "Pattechat" means "cat paw" in French, in honor of the stray cat who was the first creature to approve a story of mine, by placing a paw on my notebook :D

What kind of writer are you?

  • Old School : Notebook and pen Writer
  • Modern Day : Laptop or PC Writer

Name one book you loved as a kid - one you loved as a new adult - and one you love now.

  •  I loved Terry Pratchett's books as a kid
  • As a teen, I loved the first six books in the Anita Blake series by Laurell K. Hamilton.
  • Now I love so many books, but maybe Tiffany Roberts' monster romance books are a highlight.

Is there an author you look up to? Or had an influence on your craft?

Many authors have influenced my writing style, but the first sci-fi romance I read and got me hooked was Anna Carven's Dark Planet Warriors series.

How would you describe your craft in one sentence?

Sci-fi and fantasy romance with a hearty dose of humor.

At The Dreamer's Bookshop, we embrace diversity and advocate for invisible illnesses. How do you feel about those topics? Do you include messages in your writing?

I want to represent these topics more in my stories, but am always afraid I might not do so properly.

So far, I've included chronic pain in one of my books, Ready for Her Alien Husband, as I experience that myself and felt confident in my knowledge to cover the topic.

Do you have red lines when it comes to writing/reading?

I can't read/write books about animals getting hurt and dying.

Was there a review that touched you more than others?

I'm most happy when I see my books have helped someone overcome a difficult period in their life by providing an escape from reality and laughter.

If someone asked you why you write, what would you answer in one sentence?

I can't imagine my life without setting my imagination free on the pages of a story!

Which book are you most proud of and why?

I'm proud of each one!

What would you tell an aspiring writer?

Write! Finish that story, even if it's a rough draft.

Everything else will click into place if you don't give up!

What's a wish you have for yourself as an author?

To reach more readers, so I can bring more people the same happiness that writing and reading books brings me.

What's a wish you have for yourself as a person?

To appreciate what I have in the present more, instead of always striving for something new in the future.

Do you have a message for your audience?

Keep reading and spreading the love for books!
