Indie Authors Uncovered - Meet the person behind the pages - Emilie Ocean - Always magical and spicy!

Where were you born?

A close up picture of a young woman with dark hair and light brown skin.

I was born in Reunion Island.

Where do you live?

I now live in Ireland.

Do you have fur babies?

A white four year old Mal Shi called Cinnamon.

Do you use a pen name?

Emilie is my real name, but Ocean is the surname I gave myself a few years before becoming a writer. I wanted a surname that wasn't the product of the patriarchy.

What kind of writer are you?

  • Modern Day Laptop/PC Writer.

Name one book you loved as a kid - one you loved as a new adult - and one you love now.

  • I can't think of a specific book I loved as a kid. Something with a princess is a safe bet. I liked reading fairy tales.
  • As a new adult, I liked the Circle Trilogy by Nora Roberts.
  • And now, there are so many books written by talented indie authors that I love. Here's one of them: Break the Tide by Avril N. Sun.

Is there an author you look up to? Or had an influence on your craft?

I have a group of author friends I like to talk to for support. I like the way we're always there for each other. It makes me feel supported. I love them.

How would you describe your craft in one sentence

Always magical and spicy!

At The Dreamer's Bookshop, we embrace diversity and advocate for invisible illnesses. How do you feel about those topics? Do you include messages in your writing?

I absolutely agree with The Dreamer's Bookshop there.

All my FMCs are BIPOC, and most of my couples are biracial.

Enshadowed (book 2 in the While You Can series) is dedicated to plus-size girlies.

And my FMC in Untailed (standalone in the While You Can series) is a wheelchair user.

Do you have red lines when it comes to writing/reading?

Like many girlies, I struggle with r@pe scenes.

Was there a review that touched you more than others?

So many lovely people have left me incredible reviews. I can't single out one in particular because I am so appreciative of everyone who read my books.

If someone asked you why you write, what would you answer in one sentence?

Because the stories I wanted to read weren't written yet.

Which book are you most proud of and why?

A book with a blue cover, a black lady and a blonde white male.

Enchanted is my debut novel.

Without it, there wouldn't be Enshadowed, Uncursed, Untailed, Protectors, and Protectors Inc.

What would you tell an aspiring writer?

Tune out all negative comments and keep writing.

What's a wish you have for yourself as an author?

I wish for my books to be turned into a TV show or movie!

What's a wish you have for yourself as a person?

I wish to retire early hahaha.

Do you have a message for your audience

A table with lots of book covers.

I love each and everyone of my readers and send you all virtual hugs.
