Indie Authors Uncovered - Meet the person behind the pages - Meet Morgana Sandpiper - A chaotic mashup of everything I love about stories

Where were you born?

I was born in South Florida, United States.

Where do you live?

I now live in Western New York, United States.

Do you have fur babies?

I have a Calico Tabby who sounds like a lamb sometimes 😭

She's so adorable and fluffy and I love her.

Do you use a pen name?

Yes! Morgana Sandpiper is my pen name!

Morgana is just cool epic name and is inspired by King Arthur's story.

Then, Sandpipers are my favorite birds. They're so cute and I love their little scurry. Together, the name just sounded good. 🥰

What kind of writer are you?

  • Contemporary Tech Writer (phone/tablet/voice over)

Name one book you loved as a kid - one you loved as a new adult - and one you love now.

  • I loved the Warrior Cat Series growing up.
  • I am a New Adult so I guess that would count as now. The Spellshop is my most highly rated read at the moment. Hoping to find more!

Is there an author you look up to? Or had an influence on your craft?

Elsbeth Eden.

She isn't published yet, but she was my first beta reader and she's helped me so much with crafting my story . A lot about writing, I learned from her, and I can't wait for y'all to experience her writing.

She really knows how to craft an immersive story and her books deserve all of the love.

How would you describe your craft in one sentence

A chaotic mashup of everything I love about stories and random ideas, that spit out something that somehow works? 😭🤣🤣

At The Dreamer's Bookshop, we embrace diversity and advocate for invisible illnesses. How do you feel about those topics? Do you include messages in your writing?

I appreciate that there's a variety of voices. We need diverse voices and stories. More diverse stories leads to more exciting worlds, messages and adventures. New experiences.

My stories are very much based on my American roots, so many times I will pull on Jim Crow and slavery to show the effects of racism on a person and how dehumanizing those things can be. I want to show how it's harmful for everyone.

I hope to touch on subjects in racism that aren't quite always seen. I believe reading stories through different lenses we can really learn more about the world.

Do you have red lines when it comes to writing/reading?

(like red flags and stuff? Like a boundary?) I always try to write and read stuff that's exciting. My brain will refuse to get through a boring scene. I learned pretty quickly to DNF a boring book, especially if it's in the first of a series.

When I'm writing a boring scene, my brain almost shuts off, and refuses to complete a scene until I figure out why I'm not interested. Usually means the scene is unnecessary or there's something wrong with the scene.

Was there a review that touched you more than others?

Everyone of my reviews that are 5 stars, are wild to me. Even a few of my 4 star reviews are crazy to think are about Soulmateless.

Here are my favorite quotes that really touched my heart, but there are definitely more!

We all love a forbidden mates story, but THIS ONE RIGHT HERE?!? Mind blowing!"

This book really left me crying because of the Romeo and Juliet vibes. But also because I was able to relate a lot to the main character Amias and his insecruities with wanting to

find his true love."

...characters are smart and witty, and the plot will have you hooked from start to finish."

I love that Morgana did not shy away from showing us the complex trauma her

characters go through. No sugar coating things which was a breath of fresh air."

If someone asked you why you write, what would you answer in one sentence?

I need someone else to experience my crazy ideas. 🤣

Which book are you most proud of and why?

Well, umm I only have one book out so I guess it's Soulmateless. Because its my first that I actually got to publish and complete.

What would you tell an aspiring writer?

Sometimes you need to tell your brain to shut up and just do the damn thing. You think people won't like your idea, but if you like it, someone out there is waiting for it. Or if they're not waiting for it, it'll be something they don't know they need.

What's a wish you have for yourself as an author?

To reach people and have other people enjoy the worlds I've become attached to.

To make people feel.

To make people invested and cling to these ideas.

What's a wish you have for yourself as a person?

I want to enjoy life. I want to live a life where when it's time to die, I feel like I've done everything there is to do. So when it's all over, it doesn't matter what's on the other side. There's nothing left to do.

When I'm old, I want to feel like there is no point in living anymore because I enjoyed all there is. To feel like I juiced life until it went dry.

Do you have a message for your audience

Don't be afraid to share ideas. If you think you have a great idea, go for it. Create things, debate things and see where it leads you.
